electric on/off for broadcast spreader

I pull a broadcast spreader behind a zero turn mower and can't reach the lever to turn it on and off from the seat. Does anyone have a good idea how to fix this? I was wondering about using a 12 volt solenoid instead of the lever to open and close the outlet of the spreader but where to find a solenoid with the necessary movement and force. I've also considered using a spring to close the spreader and a rope to open it but how to hold it open yet be able to release it quickly. Really need to figure this out. Thanks for any ideas.

Lengthen the lever? Actuators and such can be pretty pricey for what you want to do...

Something like this.....many different stroke lengths available.

12 volt linear actuator

A 80"s to 90"s GM power door lock actuator should have plenty of power and a long enough stroke to work. Boneyards are full of them so it should be cheap. HTH Jf

I put a 3-point spreader on a cab tractor and had the same problem. I used the arm and motor for an electric window from a car. The arc of movement mimics the factory lever. Works well and cost little.

Good idea Gordo! I like that one. Cheap and simple. Power door lock actuator seems good too. Any other ideas let me know. I"m not moving fast on implementing the idea.
