I was at a sale today and bought alot of stuff from a family whos grandfather was a Second World War vet. A small brass USN lock and key and several hatchets. Two of the hatchets matched and one was wrapped in a newspaper from a ship the guy was on. Does anyone know if there was a US Navy hatchet. It has a narrow head and a square hammer on the other side. No markings. I did not try to google search it yet. Any info is appreciated.

Could well be. Back in WW1 the Sea-Bees would have been issued such a hatchet for when they where doing work on many of the Island when they built landing strips. My son was a Sea-Bee and I asked him about it just now

WWII USNavy 12 man life rafts had a hatchet. It had a special alloy head that would not corrode. Is that what you have?
I would love to have it if you don't want it
email is opne. Send photo?

There are collectors organizations and websites devoted to things like that. Search for something along the lines of "Military edged tool collectors" or some thing like that. I know I've seen collections of axes and such that were mounted on specific vehicles from WW2, people go nuts getting the "correct" shovel and axe. I'm sure there's some guys out there somewhere that know just what you have if you can find them.
