Wood Splitter float update

Hello,
The old splitter still got it! A still have the old float in there. Yea I know, but I keep soldering it. Split about a cord and it only flooded a couple of time. Two things are helping quite a bit. One is that a lowered the float height. Two is that I keep 1/2 tank of gas or less. Here is the pile I split this morning.

My splitter used to be one o those low to the ground critters. I built up axle struts and put a pneumatic caster under the end, and 3pt pins on it so I can use it while standing up straight.
Built the jib pole this winter, to pick up heavy blocks. In the process of building a small hyd. elivator to load the split wood without having to pick it up of the ground. This American spliter, built in Black River NY, has split millions of blocks since the 70s when I got it. I have worn out 3 Briggs engines on it, and the 4th has a years worth of splitting, on it.

Hello Adirondack case guy,

You have a nice set up there! My Wisconsin engine was built in 1944 I think. Originally bobbit bearings. It is still as good as ever. NOW if I can only get it to stop flooding. It only does it now when first started. I have split about a cord since my first post.
I have another splitter 10 feet away from this one, ready to go. But I like mine better,

Guido.

Hello J. Wondergem,

Nothing I can see on the float that is rubbing in the bowl. Good spot to check, mine is fine. Lowering the float height and putting in just a quart of gas at the time, seems to keep it form flooding. I have split about a cord since my original post, five more to go..............

Hello sflem849,

That is a good idea! I guess I can get it at the auto supply store? I think I'll do it before I start splitting the rest of my pile...Thanks,

Guido.
