Motorcycle Tour Pak or Trailer?

My wife and I enjoy day trips on our HD Road King, but at times need more luggage space. Would you go with a tour pak or trailer?

Thank,
Glenn

I would not fool with a trailer for just day rides. I would go with good saddle bags.

I am currently looking at a three wheeler for me and the wife. Then you have a trunk with you.

I would vote for the tour pack, less to go south, bearings, tires, lights and your passanger gets a backrest too! and you dont have to worry about backing the whole rig up when parking /manuvering

I can't imagine taking a trailer unless I had to haul camping equipment. And when camping, I carry way too much gear to put in a cycle trailer.

Treat your motorcycle like it was a backpack. Scrutinize every single item. Did you use it on the last trip? If not, you can probably leave it at home. If you find you do need something you left behind, well there's always Walmart.

Thank you to each of you for your wise input. I plan on going quick detach tour pak. I want to keep my Road King just that, a simple, full size Harley-Davidson touring bike. Pak will be snapped on only when needed.

Just a few days ago I spoke with a fellow that was touring the country with a motorcycle. He had a sidecar mounted to his cycle in which he carried a large backpack; he also had clip-on "soft-shell" nylon panniers mounted on the front forks & on the rear frame.

Personally, I would avoid a trailer, too much hassle - license, lighting, hitch, hard to back up, etc. .

Im glad you didn't get mad at my comment . An old Sam Kennison routine came to mind about guys with trailers and loaded up bikes. The way Kennison yelled when he delivered a punch line was great. Mine didn't come across like that of coarse. The punch line was there is something for those guys "IT'S CALLED A CAR" .

trailer
once you get used to it you will like it and use it more than on just trips
tour pack, be carefull how much weight on the rear tire and make sure you have the rear tire properly inflated
good luck

I go on multi day tours on my snowmobile with just a small backpack and small saddle bags. just stop at a store every few days to buy more stuff and throw dirty laundry away,LOL. But that's just me. Icouldn't ask my wife to do that.

we pull a trailer just about every place we go and that was 22,000 miles last year. first we bought a Harbor Fright motorcycle trailer for 249.00 it's the black clam shell one and the reason we pull it all over is you just never know what deal you will find on a day ride and we do all our shopping in the summer on the bike. our Gold Wing dose not even know the trailer is back there and i don't ether we put a cooler with some drinks and food in it and hit the road we also pull a popup camper for our weekend outings [with brakes]
