Goodmorning everyone!!
So, as you know last winter I welded up some custom bumpers for my Silverado and I really liked how they turned out, but they had a couple problems...
The first of which was the paint... I painted these in my garage one sub-zero night because I *HAD* to have them back on the truck for school the next day... And it was soooo cold that night, that the paint didnt stick to the metal, and we were having rust issues literally a few days after the paint job... At first it honestly looked cool, a few small spots of rust gave it a nice rough-looking "patina", but it got out of hand quickly and soon the entire bumpers were rusting away after just three months in Ohio...
So I knew I'd have to do something about this...
Our second problem was the mounting... We pretty much just threw the bumpers back on the truck while shivering, and in a hurry... The mounts do have some adjustability to them, but we weren't worried about that at the time... I decided I'd just loosen the bolts up and re-position them correctly, which of corse I never got around to :/
And because of this we had some "gaps" in the front, between the bumper and the grille, and the back bumper was sitting at a strange angle... Im sure I was probably the only person to notice this, but it still bothered me...
Anyway, I knew something had to be done, so I bought a few cans of truck bed liner, some paint striper, a wire wheel and some acetone and got to work...
And MAN am I glad I did... I'll admit, the first paintjob and installation never would have left the shop if it had been for a customer, I would have re-done it then and there, but since it was for my truck I guess I let it go longer than I should have...
I primed and truck-bed-liner'd them, and re-installed them... I also made a video about this process and answered people's most commonly-asked questions about the build later on in the video... And blew up a watermelon and shot an AR-15... That was fun, too
Anyway, I just thought I'd take a moment to share the video, I wanted to make an update and follow-up about the entire build... Have an awesome weekend, everyone
