Pressed out a glass horse last week

Last week we rolled out the old glass press out of the corner of the Gilson glassworks in Clayton NJ. We upped the furnace temp from 2000deg to 2200deg to make the glass run thinner. We pressed a horse ashtray, or a candy/coin dish for the non-smokers. We used clear Corona beer bottles plus an addition of cobalt for the coloring. Next week we will try glass doorknobs.

If you use some reddish glass for the rim and white for the center so it looked Wheelhorse and I would buy one!
Interesting process. Please post more!

I'm in the antique bottle club here in North Jersey. That is incredible. I tried stuff like that with my torches and usually wound up with shattered glass all over. I would also be interested in purchasing one of those from you if you are going to sell any of them. Nice work and great pics ! Keep em coming if you do it again.

This horse ashtray/coin dish will be available on my site www.glassgaffersgallery.com in different colors in the future. Right now we only made half dozen which were gobbled up by everyone. We were experimenting with the glass temperature to get the glass to fill the entire mould.

Very interesting. I haul a lot of Crown Cork and Seal loads and pick up from their glass recyling facility near Minneapolis. I got a tour of the plant once. It was impressive.
