Husqvarna saw

Boss"s Son got a new saw. He couldn"t get it put together. I looked at it for a couple of minutes tonight and I couldn"t get the brake to go around the drum. How do you expand it to go around the drum. This is the first saw I have worked on with a brake. I think it might be safer for him and us if I can"t get it going.

Before anyone hollers at me, I did not get a model # .We just got back in and I was trying to get out the door and get home at a decent time.

MF294-4,

Okay, I'not trying to be a smart-alec nor am I trying to insult you, but I wonder if you tried resetting the brake lever before trying to put the side cover on? If the brake lever is in the "brake" position, the brake band obviously will not go over the clutch drum.

Sorry. Don't mean to state the obvious, but I can't think of any other reason for the problem.

I not sure but I beleive you have to make sure that the brake handle is off. I know a friend of mine was having trouble getting his band back on when he replaced the clutch until he released the brake handle.

If that saw is like mine, and the brake is tripped with the side cover off the drum, it won't go back on. It takes a screwdriver under the link arm to get it to reset, just using the handle as usual won't work, as least not on mine.

The last one I did by securing the clutch cover to the bench with screws. Remove the brake handle from the saw and use it to reset the brake. Then put everything back together.

Happened to me on new 450. With the clutch side cover off you can see a round coupling on the cover that mates with the brake handle on the saw. I used a large pair of channel-lock pliers and wound (turned) the coupling back into the detention. The spring load is VERY heavy ! I had to hold cover in my bench vice.

Hello MF294-4,

Bet you the brake is on. Realese it first. The ban does not touch the drum while the engine is running, otherwise it woudl make quite a noice!

Guido.

Why is a BRAND NEW saw "apart?"

But yeah, the chainbrake mechanism is tripped. If the brake paddle is attached to the clutch cover, you just have to pull it back.

Otherwise, you need to figure out how the paddle engages the mechanism (probably a socket or slot) and turn that socket/slot to disengage the brake.
