You can probably find a good used oiless air compressor for 1/4 the price of a new one. Regular air compressors cost more new, but they hold their value much better.
I have had one oiless air compressor for about 20 years that I first used for some painting then I relegated it to occasional use in the home garage. It works well but I won't buy another one. It is too noisey for shop use, well over 100 Decibles. It has a 60 Hz buzz. It's not too bad for outside use, but for me it's too loud for inside a building. I often start it and then leave the garage until it finishes running.
