I use the recommend IR "all-season" oil. It's even got their name on it(grin). I don't think it's synthetic, breaker blows when extremely cold. I change the oil each spring, never have seen it foam before. Thanks....don t. ....

I had that problem with hard starting when really cold with the original oil that came with the compressor. A machinist friend of mine told me to use mobil one. Changed to Mobil one and it starts easy in winter and doesn't foam.

Same here, changed all compressors to Mobil 1 grade 5W-30 motor oil in Quincy shop compressor and several other portable compressors. No foam, oil still looks new at annual change and they start e4ffortlessly at -30 in unheated shop.
