weed wacker cluth removal

I"m trying to get the rest of the clutch off of my weedwacker to replace a spring related to the starter mechanism. Problem is, I can"t figure out how to get the rotor seen in the photo apart.

I stopped the piston up and tried unscrewing the rotor but it wouldn"t pop and I was getting nervous that I was going to break something that shouldn"t be moving. There does not seem to be a screw inside the center hole of the rotor either.

Any one have any idea? ever had one apart like this before?

Stuff the cylinder with rope. Then you can turn the arm. Will be left handed threads. the rope will stop the engine but will not hurt anything.. Should have an arrow on the arm pointing to off.

That's what I was doing before, it just wasn't wanting to pop loose and I was nervous about really cranking on it. I'll give it another shot this weekend, thanks.

Efco made trimmers under the Olympic name. They also made rebadged trimmers for manufacturers that did not carry trimmers in their product line, like Jonsered. If you look for trimmers manufactured during the same period as yours, you might find a parts list for your machine.

The arm is the flywheel nut as well. It will be on pretty tight. You will have a hard time with just trying to turn it by hand. Just take a small hammer and give it a sharp rap on the side of the arm in the direction to loosen it. They will pop right loose this way. You can damage them by just torquing on it. A sudden rap will work much better.

An easy way to remember which way to turn such things is they always loosen by turning the same direction they rotate. I agree with JD, try tapping it first prior to the rope deal.
