A friend of mine had a 67 or 68 F100 with a 352. When the 352 got tired, they transplanted a 390 2 barrel from a 69 LTD SW. The F100 felt like it had about twice as much power and got about 3 mpg better mileage.
I suspect that the truck 352 had a fairly different camshaft than the otherwise very similar car engine. And some 352"s had mechanical lifters. The truck 352 would probably work, but I bet there are usable or rebuildable 390"s out there that would work better. You would need to change a BUNCH of stuff to make a small block work, so I would stick with an FE. Good luck!
