My Dad needs a timer like this for his softener. Anyone have a good one?

Consider buying him a new softener.... It would have new resin and works on demand rather than time.

You might save the cost of the new one in less salt in a couple years.

Do your Dad a favor and get a Kinetico. Don"t need any timers or electricity and will last forever. Mine was installed in 1977 and have had one service call. A little pricey tho.

Fought those timers for years. Repaired and tried to repair, nothing ever worked for long. Either get a new timer or a new softner.

That looks just like mine. I have a Master water softener. They rebuild the timers for somewhere 160.00, give or take a few bucks. Mine is 25 years old.

I used to buy softeners from a friend that started his own business after working for one of the big companies. I rented them to commercial customers. LOTs cheaper from an independent plus they know a lot more than the trainees working for the big companies. So I suggest calling an independent who can come in and replace just the head. Your Dad will save a lot. Also all softeners that I have seen have a water wheel in the head running off line pressure, that determines by DEMAND when it regenerates. I tried Kinetico but had problems with the water driven timer getting bound up.

Marlo in Racine, WI makes a good value line of softeners. Yes, your resin loses its effectiveness over the years, maybe a new unit might be the way to go. Buy nothing without a water test, wells are organic and can change over time requiring something different than you had in the past. Good luck, a good softener is a joy!
