Early fathers day present

Well the boy handed it to me just a little bit ago. Winchester model 94-44mag. Plus a full box of rounds. Took it out and shoot 2 out of it. First one was to put a hole in the snow on the target board so I would have a target to shoot at. 2nd shoot hit abut 2 inches lower then the first at 35 yards so will have to play with it a bit to get it right on. Open sights by the way

He picked it up some place used but looks to be new. Even has the lanyard ring on it

Yep been set up to do 44mag for a decade now and have a good number of them on hand

Lucky you dad wish I had my 94 30-30 I bought mid 70"s. Great kids I bet they knew what would trip your trigger. (no pun intended )

I recall for some reason you had an eye for the .44 mag in a rifle or carbine.

Going back many years, while hunting whitetail deer, in the nearby mountains along the Mass. border, friend had 300 acres up there, I had borrowed a ruger carbine in that caliber, with hand loads. The peak was somewhere around 1000 feet above sea level, and the weather bitter cold as in single digits. I was still hunting on the ground and observing an old logging road, a nice 8 point buck came out and I was sighted in on him, pulled the trigger and nothing, well I did get the click, firing pin hit, but it did not go off, then it did, some sort of delayed reaction, buck was gone, I had figured it was the cold. In those days, finances were really tough, low pay job, did not even own a firearm, used to borrow dads Winchester "94, and or anyone elses available, always made sure to clean and oil etc., funny thinking back, who in heck would let you "borrow" a firearm today LOL !

I liked the "94 in .32 special, not long range but just fine for most conditions here. The ruger in a carbine was an influence, I just had to go out and get an Iver-Johnson M1 Carbine in stainless steel, seemed like a great home defense tool and nice plinker, I used to hunt with it, just not long range, .30 carbine though not the best penetrator, still went through an 8" hardwood tree at 75 yards, made me think back to that .44 in a ruger carbine, always wondered which was the better caliber, but actually, they"re both pretty good.

Ya I too had talked about wanting a 44mag rifle because I reload that round and it only made sense to have a rifle that shot the same round as my favored hand gun

Well as for borrow a gun I let people do it all the time on my place when hunting on my place. I have friends who have kids or grand kids and they need a rifle to hunt with so I let them use one I have but then I collect them.
As for a Carbine I have an old M-1 Carbine 30cal that I like and it has dropped a few deer over the year.
I would have preferred a 44mag in a carbine but then I do prefer the semi auto over a lever gun

One of 2 yes and thanks. As for the other one I have checked every place in this area that sells electronic stuff and none can get those diodes and many when I show them the part ask what the heck is that. Sad how what people knew of electronics years ago are no longer known and because of that one day it will hit the fan big time

At least some things don't change in some areas, I suppose it still takes place around here, but back then and even now it was always greatly appreciated as it put food on the table if you had a successful hunt, only trouble with a borrowed rifle, you need to get used to it and how it shoots first. I'll bet that made your day, who would not be happy with a '94 !

I have a target range close to the house so making sure the person knows the rifle is easy and I do make sure they know how it shoots etc.
The 94 is the 2nd one we have in the house. We also have a 94 in the common 30/30 with a scope on it

Thats a good thing, then no surprises in the field. There's a small saw mill up near the other place we have, and the owner has a nice reloading set up right in his office, with a back door range right out of the office, just has to swing the door open, it was the place you might recall the post subject recently of farm trucks, was that place in the photo with my old F600. So when he's not "saywering" he's likely reloading. He also keeps a keg on tap, the man enjoys his beer to no end.

Old, you just have to learn how to think green. There are diodes in alternators, mig welders, DC welders, large power supplies and the list goes on. I went to ebay to show you what the diode pack looks like in a GM alternator.
George
gm diode pack of 3 diodes

Ya I understand that but my local auto parts tore when asked about diodes like the ones I need could not find any thing close. Ya I can order them but at $18 or so each plus $10 shipping

Biggest set I found at my local Radio shack was maybe 10amps and that is not big enough

Old you are talking about all of those electronic things for a batt charger. I dont know if this will help but I have a 5 gal bucket full of all kinds of transistor typethings that i got from my sisterinlaw. Her husband used to tinker with tv"s and radios. Near as I remember that was back in the early eightys untill about 10 years ago. They were in storage since then.I am down by Union. If you think there might be something that you can use let me know. I have no clue as to what these things are for. All sizes and colors and shapes. There isnt any glass tubes fo tv or radio.

To bad your not closer to me. Been well over a decade since I was down that way. Years ago there was a truck repair shop in Union I would get parts from but the flood of 92 put them out of business. What I am needs is a set of heavy duty diodes that mount with 5/16 nuts. The mount is one side and then has a part you solder a wire on. Ya not to go on if you do not know what a part is

Yes I know that but to get up to the 85amp or so goes back to the $$. One of the problems of living in a tourist trap town and not having much in the way of stores. May check for some next time I go to Columbia and see what I can find. Bad thing is when I was a kid I could find them all over the place

Hello old,

Radio Shack has a bridge diode rated at 50 amps 200v. Some fo those couter guys are not very swift. I went to look for a mini stereo 3.5mm jask and he told me i only neede 2 wires for stereo not 3? I said thanks and left.
Guido.

Guess your local radio shack has better stuff then mine has since the biggest they have here is the 6amp ones I use for 12 volt conversions
