Brake assemblies for Dexter axles

I have the hubs off my dump trailer with 6,000#
Dexter axles. Magnets and shoes both bad so the
complete assemblies will be cheaper than parts.
Trailer wont see many miles and wont be on the
freeways going 70 MPH but I do like my brakes. Like
everything else China has entered the market and my
choices are OEM Dexter, "USA" made at 1/2 Dexter
cost or Chinese at 1/3 Dexter cost. Anyone have
experience with the Chinese or "USA" made non-Dexter
parts?
 
I bought the cheapest brake assemblies www.etrailer.com had to offer and they have served me well for 3 years now. Like most things I own, they go bad from sitting long before they wear out.
 
I'll bet if you call Larry Montgomery at Montgomery's Trailer Sales in Wilksville, Ohio He will have the info and parts you need. He's always been very reasonable on his prices whenever I've needed parts for or had him work on my trailers. Keith

not sure what you're calling a kit. Are you replacing the drums too if they are scored bad?.
I did a set on a trailer and the drums where bad but replacement wasn't gonna happen on that job.

The surfaces the magnets ran on where scored to the middle of next week and the shoe surface was no better either.
Those brakes never have worked good since and I bet the magnets and shoes are bad again now due to the scoring and ware.
The replacement parts where Dexta but don't remember if they where U.S or China made.
Truth be told in that state cheapest would be best just waisting good money on those drums

The trailer has sat for a long while and apparently seen salt as the working parts were badly rusted but not worn out. Drums are in good shape needing only a very light cut to remove the rust, already done. If a person needs both shoes and magnets the price is within $5 of buying the entire backing plate with everything mounted (Dexter at my dealer)and replacement is 5 bolts two wires and done deal.
