Question for Stick Welding

Dave,

Earlier today I was looking for the personal I.D. number (the number under the time and date in the Author column) of someone who posted a mean spirited message anonymously. I was going back through previous pages to see if I could find that number on a posting where the person used their regular YT name. (I never did find it,
BTW.) In a posting labeled "Stick Welded some Cast Iron the RIGHT way" by Lanse, I noticed that your postings have two different I.D. numbers, namely 96.53.210.246 and 198.53.83.89. How did you manage that? Do you use two different computers to post messages, or is it something else? The online name Stick Welding appears with both numbers.

That is NOT a "personal ID number". It is an Internet Protocol (IP) address. And it is not a reliable indicator of identity. Multiple computers may appear to share a single IP address, while a single computer may use different IP addresses. Furthermore, most PCs use Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP), which means they can get a new IP address on the fly.
