What's going on with my drill ??

It's a DeWalt 14.4 volt cordless drill, model DW991.

Drill has worked flawlessly - until today the chuck shaft stopped turning. Wouldn't turn in either direction. In free air, the chuck would move a little, but had no torque whatsoever.

It was 35 degrees where I was working - a couple hours later I picked it up, and it had usual torque by holding the chuck. I did not test it by drilling or running some screws in.

What failed - healed - ???

Could be a bit of corrosion on the battery contacts. If it does it again give the battery a smack with your hand and see.

I didn't make an important point - the motor ran perfectly: fast, slow, frw or backwards - the chuck shaft didn't turn.

Then definitely it was either stuck between high and low range, or the torque release got gummed up with cold grease and stayed released.
