All yoking aside, its a gadget manufactured to be used for the duty its designed for.
If you have heard of Entines theory of realtivity it wood seem that it could be related to a plow because they both are made of iron
One thing I think is they probably don't make them in America anymore.
The patent has most likely ran out several years ago.

Used to hold a horse"s mouth open for working on teeth or administering medicine. You put it into the horse"s mouth then push the handle down till the lower jaw comes thru the opening by the handle.

Dan: If you want one of these to use with horses have them send you a full scale drawing and a bkacksmith or farrier can make you one. Armand

I don;t know if it is in fact used when floating a horses teeth as claimed, but if it is the thing is called a "speculum" IIRC.

Greenmech: Let me know if you would make me a full scale drawing with measurements and I will send you my address. Thank you. Armand

We used one just like it to lead hogs around. If you put it in their mouth and upper snout, you can lead them anywhere you want. As you know their snouts are very sensitive.

Never seen one exactly like that but do remember a "twitch" used on hogs/cows/horses. It was a short loop of light rope passed through a hollow handle (like from a 5gal. bucket). It wasn't put in the animals mouth, but around the upper lip/snout and twisted via the handle to control the animal.
