Driveway / Mailbox Alert

Been thinking about a driveway alarm for sometime but not even sure why since we leave the gate closed 99.9% of the time. While surfing I ran across this little gem and wondered if anyone has one and if so how they like it. This would be really handy as I"ve made many trips to the box only to find it empty. It seems the Post Office likes to rotate rural delivery folks around so our mail could arrive anytime between 9 AM and 4 PM.
Mailbox Alert

Had a young Irish feller stay here about 15/20 years ago. I noticed he kept putting the flag up after he picked up the mail, he thought that's what you, do and when it was delivered you could see flag down from the house. Wasn't to bad a idea.

I had a neighbor who put a large red plastic lid between her mailbox door and mailbox. When the mailman had deposited mail the red lid would fall down and hang by a light chain. She would get her mail and put the lid between the box and door again.

This is the kind we have-- on a spring. Catch a string in the mailbox lid, when the mailman opens the lid the yellow flag pops up. Got this for $1. Usually they fasten on the box, I have a shield to protect the box from the snowplow man and fastened it to that.

Surprised people take getting mail that serious I check mail about once a week if that. I would not care if mail delivery went down to two days per week. Just my two cents.

You guys are giving the identity thieves plenty of time to steal your credit card statements, bank statements, and all kinds of other goodies.

I have a wireless driveway alert. Uses a motion detector mounted on the corner of the house and a receiver that plugs in wherever I want around the house. Problem is motion detector goes off way too easily. Every breeze, tree limb, etc. Works good as far as drive way intrusions, but wife keeps unplugging it!

Gtractorfan, I believe if I put a steel mailbox protector like that up the state DOT would make me take it down. Mailbox is to be mounted on a breakaway post.Which means the post is to be sawcut about 1/3rd of the way thru at ground level. I live on a state highway, so my restrictions may be different than yours. But I do like the flag on a spring. gobble

My dad closes the mailbox door with a red piece of metal wedged between the door and the box. He has a string tying it to the box. When the mailman opens the door to deliver the mail, it falls out of the way. After he gets his mail, he sticks it back in again.

Have used an older Radio Shack version for years. Really like it, has worked well. Also have one remote camera (recorded) aimed at the box as there"s been some area vandalism/theft, and box is not LOS from house.

That's interesting. The mailbox protector I put up is on a post salvaged from the scrap yard identical to what signs are mounted on along the road. It wouldn't have much resistance to a vehicle. I have the mailbox on an auger, been there about 40 years.

The item sounds better than my trick:battery powered door bell button mounted so that the opened box door pushed the button (if the door was lowered to horizontal). LOS, 100' Paper delivery man pushed the button when delivery was made to the box under neath.
BUT little round battery didn't last long and was too expensive and those items you plug into the outlet use electricity 24/7!
