Hydraulic Floor Jack Problems--Need Advice!

I have a 20 year old Sears floor jack, 1.5 ton, very light usage, with a problem. It works, but will not hold up the load. In fact, it will leak down without any load whatsoever. It has never leaked a drop and just started this suddenly. Is there any reason to try to repair it, and if so, what are the most common problems? Your expertise is appreciated and needed.

A few years back , I fixed 3 of them , it was the seal inside the jack cylinder. The seal lips were all crumbley and the fluid was contaminated with water or some other fluid... A place that carries seals like Baum Hydraulics, Surplus Center , or A.C. De Puydt here in L.A. carry them . Bring your sample !

How I fix a jack

I tear it slap apart theirs nuttin to'em then I can determine if its fixable are junk I have only wasted 15 min of my time...

The last one I dissembled one of the check balls had eroded I went to my carburetor spare parts box and used a accelerator pump check ball as a replacement... Everything else looked good as new in the jack... After the repair all I had extra to do was reset the relief valve assy...

On all the others the ram cup had came apart  I spent a day fudgen with this jack Then went for the kill and tore it apart,,,if I was not so skeered and tore it apart first it would have been all down hill after 15 min of my time...

These guys have seal kits for Craftsman. This other link has kits for Walker-Lincoln brands which yours might well be.

I had two Sears jacks that did the same thing. I thought the risk was too great to use them and didn't want anyone else to use them so I just scrapped them so someone wouldn't get hurt.

I found an Arcon 3.25 ton jack at Costco for $105; it is a much safer jack to use than those Sears jacks were. I still use safety stands along with the jack, just to be sure.

I , once, spent several hours, on the phone, trying
to track down metric parts, for a China made jack.
I finally got to an importer, in Los Angeles, who
Imported and placed decals, on China jacks, for
Crapsman, and other brands. He told me: Look
buddy, I'm in the business of selling jacks, not
parts! If your's is China made, scrap it, don't
risk your safety, or life!

Those little 1.5 floor jacks are worthless. You can find a 3.5 ton jack for 100 bucks or less.I paid 63.00 for one 5 years ago.TSC has a 3.5 ton, didnt notice the price but it was well built.
