In my case a dishwasher is a tool

I just purchased a dishwasher for my shop that was used and supposedly in working order. I loaded it up with dirty old parts and the motor (pump) runs but no water will get to it. I didn't have a multi meter with me so couldn't check out too much. I wired the fill solenoid to 110v and it worked fine. I removed the float switch and brought it home to check and it seems ok closed to fill, open when float rises.

What are typical failures on dishwashers?

No screen that I can see. Wish I'd have been prepared to work on it, I think it's more of an electrical issue. Just kind of looking for somebody that's had some hands on experience. I've never been around a dishwasher, don't know what are the typical failure points.

Simple creatures really. The timer should trigger the fill valve when the cycle starts. Once level is made the timer advances and starts the motor that circulates the water. At the end of the step the motor is reversed and pumps the water out the drain.
If there is power to the inlet valve but no water flow it is either the valve or the supply to the valve. No power to the valve? Timer or level control.
I am sure some work slightly differently and someone will correct me but that is basicly what happens.

Today I had the right tools to delve a bit deeper. Pulled off the front cover and after playing with the drum switch the contacts for the fill solenoid were a bit dirty, cleaned them up and now I've got some clean chainsaw parts.
