Finished one winter project and have to do another!

I have just finished putting in seven new base board heaters with a new subbox. I thought I was done with inside projects for the winter. But after having a breakin several weeks ago I have a project of repairing windows and making the place more secure. Have put some bars on doors with a lot of glass and some of the windows on dark side of house and put more stuff under lock and key. Also looking into a camera system. Iam going to look into a new insurance company the one I have had for 35 years did not pay very good on this one. If I had been home they wouldnt walked away from sight.

I have heard of a laminate that you can put on glass that is thin and see through that is virtually impossible to get through. It makes the window like a windshield and it will break, crack and look ugly, but very difficult to get through. Might be an idea if you don't want to look at bars.

Remember, if the burglar doesn't know that the window won't break, he or she will find out by trying to break it. If they can't get in, they can't steal anything from inside, but you'll still have a window that needs to be repaired. Maybe the insurance will cover it, and maybe the deductible will make it your responsibility. Bars over a window or door make it obvious that they can't get in easily. Most burglars won't vandalize a house just because it defeats easy entry. It makes noise to break glass, and it's a crime without a profit. Some burglars do vandalize, but that usually happens after they get in.

Stan I know its impossible to totally stop them but I will make it very very diffcult for them. The glass was paid 100% no deductible. But there were thing that weren't paid for by insurance and lose of things that can't be replaced. As I said before if I am home they won't leave the house once they have made entry.

I understand your anger and frustration. I've had goods stolen by thieves and burglars, too. But you might want to think twice about publishing your intentions. It's statistically unlikely, of course, but written statements of prior intent have come back to haunt people in cases where the event came true.

I have had a talk with local police about what to do if home during a breakin and been told what I could do. I hope it never happens again. My wife is the one that took it the hardest. She lost all most all her jewelry and ins. only paid $1,000.00. We are still having trouble getting a full nights sleep. It will get better with time.
