Sorry posted on wrong board first.
Does anyone know a source and kind of grease to use in the gear box on a grinder, drill ect. I would like to change the grease in the box off a Ryobi planer. Ryobi was not very helpful. Must get the gear box from another source. said it was a hi temp lithium but did not have it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

i get the grease from the tool truck, ie mac, snap on ect. they are kind of a large toothpaste type tube that screws into a mini grease gun. good for lubing air grinders, air rachets ect.

I bought a tube from Sears a while (long while) back, the part number is 9-2593. I was hoping it had some type of description on the box I could provide. However, the only thing it says is "scientifically compounded for portable electric tools".

I bought this at the DeWalt B&D service center in St.Louis.Seems to be good stuff.

I like Napa's lithium grease , kind of a clear to tan color soft grease. It needs to be soft so it doesn't just pack up in the corners.

John Deere corn head grease works well I believe it is a 00 grade which will flow back into the gears and is premium polyurea grease.
It's purpose on the corn head is to lubricate gear boxes.

Basically what you want is a OO grade grease, sometimes called semi-fluid grease. The JD cornhead grease is good I just dont like the container which a regular grease tube. My usage is like yours a dab here and there. What I keep in the shop is sold at Stihl dealers for the gear boxes on string trimmers and comes in a squeeze tube with a cap.

2 options come to mind.

I rebuilt an old worm drive circuilar saw for my brother.

sears still specs the grease for the gear drive. has to be ordered.

i have used squeeze tubes of marine lower end lube when i have reworked angle grinders and right angle drive equipment.. etc

I've used cotton picker spindle grease in the past and now use Bell drivewhaft coupling spline grease made by Syn-Tech, since that's what we have at work. For drill and grinder bearings I use Mobile 28 grease.
