This is not all of it but say about half of it. Note the one with the 5 quarters next to it. That is a 50cal the next one up says 1887 on it and has some Japanese letters on it and not sure what it is

I just wish I had a rifle that would shoot each of them but these are the rounds I got that I do not have a gun for but not all the ones I got since some I have a gun for and the others would have taken up more room then I had on the scanner

Japanese? or Chinese character- about the same since Japanese used Chinese characters/script. See if a 5/16 nut will just about fit- that maybe a 8mm Murata then. Easy fit maybe 7.7 x58 but they were usually pointed bullets. Some of old Mauser A cartridge from black powder days for variations of 1871 .43/11mm cartridge- the 9.5 Mauser also from that old original black powder family- the Mauser 1871/84 was used by China and some others in mid east awhile, bunch of them made it to China after WW1 like other new countries. Japanese and Chinese arsenals made ammo for some "non standard" but we got a bunch of these rifle in inventory or were supplying some revolutionarys- .303 British, 6.5 rimmed Manlicher from Dutch issue, 7mm Mauser, 8mm Lebel, old British .450/577 has been noted at gun shows with "Chinese" markings. Chinese mainland arsenals made some 6.5 Jap loads 1960s and it ended on surplus market. RN

With calipers here is how it measures out. it is 2.93 long base of the brass is 0.620 give or take a tad bit as in the extractor part down off that is 0.544 and the bullet is 0.430 give or take a tad bit. Does that narrow down what it might be?? Also one of the other marks looks like a line top and bottom with 3 lines up and down between them sort of like a Roman number 3

Got to shoot a Barrett 50 cal a few years back, didn't kick as bad as I thought it would but it was a awfully heavy rifle.Shot all the way thru an old Buick we we using for a target. My grand father was a 1st Lieutenant ( battle field commission ) in the 10th Armored in WW 2 His transportation of choice was a White half track with quad 50's. What little he said about it was it didn't take long to eliminate a sniper in a church steeple. He spent Christmas 1944 at the Battle of the Bulge said he would never live anywhere it snowed as long as he was alive. He's been gone quiet a few years now I miss him everyday Thanks to John Browning we still can't come up with something to totally replace the 50 cal.

Is it possible that it is an Egyption .43 cal. or maybe Spainish. They had that cal. in Remington rolling block rifles. Go to CastBoolit.com and ask.

Did you know that a 50 cal short round was made?I understand that it was used as a spotter round for ( I believe) a tank gun. I have about 6 of them and the case is 1 inch shorter than a standard 50 cal round.

If it is shorter and bigger in diameter it could be a sniper rifle type bullet

.50 spotter round? The 105 recoiless rifle had for some models a .0 cal "spotter" round- it was a flash/incenderary bullet load with ballistics matched to the 105 projectile- Marine 4 and 6 recoilless rifle (ONOTOs?) light tracked anti tank rig had them mounted parellel to the recoilless guns- fire the .50 spotter and when you saw the "splash flash" on your target, fire a 105. Army had a single 105 on tripod mount with same .50 round, same drill- fire the spotter that didn"t have a big backblast to give away location and when on target fire the 105 recoiless-and maybe move quick as the opposition then has a big puff of smoketo locate you. 11 x60r Murata specs: length 3.13, rim .632, base .542, bullet .432. Originally black powder, later loaded in smokeless powder. The first rifle domestic for Japan. features from Mauser and French previously used by Japan used- one feature was use of leafspring in bolt handle for firing pin instead of coil spring. superceded by the 8mm Murata, then replaced with Arisaka (mauser basic 98) series. I'd say you have a 11x60R Murata likely smokeles load, your measurements are within hairs distance of specs.- the rifle was used as secondary /police/ issue into 1930s. RN

I will pass that info on to the son who has it and a 50cal round sitting in his room on top of his TV
