I want to build a clock using old barn lumber for the face - maybe 4 or 5 feet in diameter. To go on our stone chimney above the fireplace. AC power is available.

I've contacted one clock company, and their best offering is a battery motor which would operate a 24" diameter works.

Anybody got leads on where I could get a motor/mechanism for a clock of this scale.

Thx in advance.

wonder if you could find a clock from the old standard gas stations. they used to have a huge bill board with a clock on it, prolly 6 0r 8 feet across.

This brass clock movement was in the tower clock of a tall building in Riverside NJ. Someone stole it years ago, and it was found a few years back and now resides in the town museum elevator which is in the tall building in Riverside.

This looks exactly like what I had in mind.

Thanks for what I learned today (tower clocks).

You will need a whole movement, for a like a tower clock. I used to service, sell , install that type of clock. The last link to American time, will probably get you right stuff.
the movement will probably be 10 -12 inches or so, going to have to have room for it. Good luck.

Why not just gear down an AC motor, it's just a math problem!

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

If the OP is going to go that route, I would think it would work better to run something like a DC motor so if the clock is fast or slow, the RPMs could be adjusted to correct it.

You cant just gear down. You need a speed regulator, something like a governor. Because ,if not,any small change in the voltage or even in temperature, will modify the speed.
