Just wondering what the most worthless thing that you paid money for?

(I can just hear somebody saying "my marriage license"). Okay if you think so.

I'm still thinking about my answer to that question.

A 1988 Dodge Dakota. Bad quality and bad luck vehicle. When I went to pick it up had a big scratch on the hood that dealer had to fix, apparently no one noticed it (?) when they unloaded the transport truck. Had a recall on something to do with the emissions system. Got hit late at night in the parking lot of a hotel while on a trip, luckily the perp owned up to it AND had insurance. Then the O2 sensor crapped out and had to be replaced. Then the transmission (automatic) trashed itself at about 12,00 miles and it took the stealership almost three weeks to fix it (new model of tranny they said, didn't know much about it and didn't have parts). Had enough and sold it to a drunken airline pilot. Haven't owned a Chrysler product since. Wife calls all of them a POS and wouldn't take a brand new one if given to her.

BOOZE!

Took me almost 30 years to fig'r out the stuff was an anesthetic.

Ain't bought any since 1987.

From what I can tell, from some people I know that regularly buy the stuff, it still has it's problems.

I bought a new 1949 Ford Convertible, so i could attract girls. The only thing that POS attracted was repairs! What a worthless car it was. I couldn"t keep the doors closed when driving it! The roof leaked! One day while driving on a local street, i crossed an area where the local towns folk had dug a ditch across the street, then filled it in halfway, leaving a 4 inch lip. When i crossed the ditch, that lip made both wheels turn outwards, and i had to limp onto the side of the street. What it did was bend the tie rod down until it dragged on the ground, and the wheels were pointed sideways! Had to be towed to the Dealer"s shop.
The inside door handles would fall off! It was originally yellow. I painted it green so i could hide in the weeds and watch the Chevie"s go by! (And, yes, I"m that old! 88.)

regarding tools, I bought a used wood lathe about 25 yrs ago for $100. I made a round piece of wood out of a square piece of wood when I first got it. After that, it just collected dust in my basement. I sold it last year for about $50 or so. I think I still have the round piece of wood, though, so I can't say it was "totally worthless".

A brand new 800 cfm Holley carb. One of the ones that splits horizontally and has integral fuel bowls. Never could get it tuned. Starved for fuel under heavy braking or turning. A tuned Q'jet was 1.5 seconds quicker in the 1320.

Plenty of top end past 120 with a 454 though!

My dad bought a 1/2 inch drill at a flea market. I told him it was junk, but he said it looked like a DeWalt. Didn't drill a hole completely through a 2x4 before he smoked the motor.

Got a set of front signal housings for my first-gen Cummins off evilpay, light sockets wouldn't fit, replacement they sent had a hole in the lens the same as the first one, and the lenses were barely glued onto the housing. And the only other place to find them is amazon.

A 1980 Chevy K5 Blazer, used, about 15 years ago. Had new engine, with paperwork and a few thousand miles, but sucked a quart of oil every 400 miles and had other problems you can't know about until driving for a while. Nice rust-free Fort Worth truck but POS otherwise. Worst vehicle decision I've ever made. I still have it -- quit driving it when gas hit $3.50 a gallon a couple of years ago. -- 11 mpg highway, about two gallons per mile in town, it seemed. Lots of pain at the pump with a 24-gallon tank. Some day I'll detail it and try to get a fourth of my money back from someone who thinks the removable half top is cool.

Second worst is a Crapsman 10" table saw I bought. It's not such a bad saw but they advertised it as 3HP when in reality it was 1.5HP. They sucked me in hook-line-and sinker on that one. Jim

I had a '97 Pontiac mini van with that no-account 3.4. I finally just got tired of trying to keep ahead of all the fluid leaks and dumped it on a consignmnet auction.

Funny part was, it was one of the nicest driving mini vans I've driven. It was just the engine was junk.

I saw it on the road the other day. Can't believe the things still running.

Remington Nylon 66 .22 rifle. Paid $135 for it new, shot a couple hundred rounds and never could hit anything with it. Still have the thing with the box. Last time I fired it was in 1988, so maybe time to dust it off and try again, then put it away for another 25 years or give it to a nephew I don't like.

I bought one of those back in '68. Think I paid $68 for it. Didn't use it that much and always kept it in pristine condition. It was about the lightest gun possible. Problem with it was that the nylon stock did not have enough rigidity and on top of that the barrel is fixed to that stock as the bolt carrige is also part of it. No matter how you hold onto it the pressure of your hands deflects the stock/barrel so it always shoots in a different spot. Last year I decided to sell a few of the guns I haven't shot in more than 20 years. Got $460 for it on Gunbroker.com. Wish I bought the bolt action version because it is more rare and would have brought more. Naturally I pi$$ed the money away on more guns I probably won't shoot that much (can't find ammo anyway).

Wow, we had 2 of them. One had a detachable clip/mag that wasn't right for the gun and would jam alot but the other one with the tubular mag was a fine gun to plink with. My complaint was being left handed the brass would burn me a lot.

The ex wife cost the most.

My '97 Chevy K2500 that I ordered from the factory, (my only brand new vehicle ever). Doors didn't fit right, wipers didn't work, it has 130k miles mainly because I don't drive it anymore.

It runs fine, just is junk. In 97 you couldn't have the 3rd door option since there was too much torque with the diesel. Well guess what, less than 2 months after I bought it I took it back because the doors wouldn't shut. The dealer told me it was because the cab was sealed so well you have to slam the doors. Hmmmmm.

I didn't order a Dodge Cummins at the time since the wait was longer. I was young and dumb. The Dodge would still be worth JD money right now at 130k.

Does animals count? Like that boar I bought once?
Dad bought a weed eater at Wally World and the lower bearing down by the head burned out. He took it back, they gave him another one and it did the same thing. That's when they told him it's built for only short occasional use. Dad was 85 years old at the time and had a bad back so he could only run it fifteen minutes at a time. When an 85 year old man with a bad back lasts longer than the weed eater, I'd say it's a worthless product. Jim

1950 Farmall M. Paid too much and the thing was junk on the inside. Luckily I bought another real cheap and junked the first one. I did all right when you consider the two.

More of my money is wasted on Taxes than anything I can think of. And I decided this would be my answer even before I read any of the other responses.

I'd say a good portion of my taxes go to pay for things (people and programs) that don't work, or work in a way I disagree with.

A Bostitch air compressor comes to mind as well. I was in a bind and needed a compressor quick. Didn't expect much from it and got even less.

What I mean is back when I bought it I could have probably used the funds to fix the trans pto seal leak in the tractor. I used to sit in the seat when I worked on the f4 Phantom in Thailand. This seat sits in the family room. Rocket is disabled.

Something called a "Yarkvark". It was an electrical device to kill fire ants. I had read about it, then stumbled on one and bought it.

Totally worthless.

Cheap tools come to mind as well.

I bought a battery charger made by Vector. 2 things wrong with it. It won"t charge a dead battery and it won"t clamp onto a side post battery. I have GM vehicles all with side post and ford tractors. Leave the lights on in the car and kill the battery it won"t turn on!
