Lombard chainsaw

My old Lombard starts and idles OK but when it hits cutting speed for about two seconds it dies. Goes back to idle OK. I've been through the carb, didn't help. I replaced the points/coondenser with solid state but it does the same thing. Could it be the coil breaking down at high speed? It's the same Wico used on Homelites.

How 'bout some kind of blockage in the exhaust/muffler part?

Forgot to mention, have you tried opening up the high speed jet a little, that is the first thing I try.

I had a Stihl saw recently where the fine mesh filter in the carb body was plugged with sludge washed through from the fuel tank.

Hello Mike (NEOhio),
Have you tried to adjust the carburetot first?
The first thing to try is the muffler screen,. I assume you have looked at the fuel lines?
Fuel filter would be next. Make sure you have a good plug and it is gapped at least 0.25.While you have the plug out, check for a good spark. It shold jump a 3/16" gap. You can use an old plug for a tester.Carburetor screen would be next. Some of the older Lombard used homelite engines that is why the mag worked

I did not know that anybody still had one of them . I bought one after the blizzard of 77 to Carrie in the truck and i had a 2.4 little lighting with a 16 inch bar . It was a cutting little saw and would cut as fast as my buddy's 040 Sthil . It was stolen off my Ft. SCREENED IN PORCH back in the 80's the night after the twister came thru town . someone cut the screen on the ft door and opened the lock and took the saw carrying case oil and gas . I replaced it with a Homelite 150 . And that piece of junk still runs .

I bought a used Lombard saw in 1970 that had the engine stuck. Soaked the piston in the cylinder
with oil. I didn't even tear it down. It was one of the best saws I ever owned. I should've kept it. One of my co-worker's bought a new Lombard saw at an auction. He still has it. That was in 1970 too. He's been diagnosed with Parkinson Disease. He's an avid fisherman, but told me he's shaking so bad he can't bate his fish hooks. Hal
