I have a Hobart Handler 135. It is about 10 years old and has been used app. 2 hr. I bought this to weld thin metal and can do a good job on 1/16" and larger. I have welded a lot of thin wall tubing and other fabrication.
I have a problem of burning through with the machine on it's lowest setting on 1/32" and a little thinner, but I have not tried with shielding gas.
Would that make a difference?

On really thin metal you have to stitch weld the metal. You make a lot of small tack welds and let the metal cool to prevent heat build up which can cause burn through and warping.

Hi Jiles,

If you haven't run it with shielding gas, that means you're only used flux core. Flux core runs hotter than gas shielded solid wire at the same settings, so yes, running solid wire with gas would be a way to weld thinner metal.

That was my question---Thanks, I will try gas.

I have the same machine I only use for mig with gas for my lite work you will love it no cmparison to the spattery flux core. great for exhaust and thinner

Yes switch to C-25, do not use 100% CO2, CO2 will give you a little hotter puddle. Get some .023 or .025 Mig wire. If you can, make all your welds vertical down hill.

Do you do most of your welding indoors or outdoors? I have a Hobart Handler 140 and so far I have only used flux-core wire. I"ve been tempted to get a tank try solid wire with shielding gas but almost all of my welding is done outdoors.
