"Juice" Booster Cables

My wife bought me a set of booster cables for Christmas. They are not spring loaded but have a cinch lock system which ratchets down when you squeeze them and are supposed to lock in place. I was skeptical right from the get go. So the other morning when we had a cold snap and I'd forgotten to plug in my truck so I went to boost it with these new cables. My suspicions were immediately confirmed, what absolute junk these things are. If you can squeeze them tight enough to get a good connection you end up bending the clamp. Any movement at all and they come right off because there is no spring holding them in place.
The final straw was when the hydraulic struts which are supposed to hold the hood open on our other pickup let go and slammed down on the clamps breaking the flimsy piece of plastic which was "holding" it in position. Now they're not just a little useless, they're COMPLETELY useless. How can they sell these things?

Look on the bright side at least the hood didn't fall on your noggin. As for those cables they probably were in one of those "Great gift idea" bins of junk they roll out around the holidays. Lots of things fall in the "how can they sell this sh*t" category, like cars with no head and/or leg room, tractor seats that the suspension that only adjusts up to 190 lbs., most jumper cables, those yellow coil air hoses, and lots of other things. I made my jumper cables out of welder cable and some really good clamps I found in the welding section at the farm store. Probably cost as much as 5 sets you can buy but they are 20' and will outlast all 5 sets.
