getting ready to buy our first flat screen tv.. been looking everywhere online..we only have 2 stores walmart and sears catalog store.what scares me about buying online is about the waranty. i would prefer talking face to face to someone about it. any comments about getting some of these online places to make good on their waranties thanks

Sears worked best for us- watch the sales- Samsung is supposed to be one of the better brands these days, and we got a 32" Samsung LED for $299, and a 40 or 42" Samsung plasma for $399. They both have great pictures. Maybe too good- now, when I see Charles Krauthammer on Fox News, I can't quit looking at those two moles on the right side of his face, that I never knew he had before the flatscreen.

That is what I consider a big ticket item, which I only buy from actual retailers, not big box stores. Actually, I don't shop big box stores period. That's just me though.

Big is good and bigger even better IF you have HD reception. If you have just digital over the air don't go Huge as the picture quality is not there. HD, DVD and Blueray look great the bigger you go.
I have just been disapointed with normal digital on my big 60" set.Old analog shows that have not been enhanced are just plain hard to watch. So grainy. I love old black and whites like McHale's Navy. It is a shame... Hopefully they will get better.

We bought one a year ago from Best Buy, it was Dynex brand, which is I'm told Best Buys store brand made for them. We are pleased with it 32" for under $200.

thanks for the replies.. i think i have settled on a samsung model 5300.. which is a 32in..we have a entertainment cabinet that i can only use a 32 in. sears is out of stock for this model and i cant get any sense from walmart salesperson on any tvs they have, maybe i need to talk to smomeelse

Here's my 2 cents: Crutchfield's online. These folks are hands-down the best customer service in the galaxy. I bought a few months back and because of the age of the other components it wasn't obvious. Easy to reach customer service and they committed 35 minutes walking me through it. Buy from any big box and try to get customer service.

As long a we're on tv's. I have been considering getting a different one also. Ads have Plasma, Led, and LCD. What exactly is the differences in them? Most manufacturers have all 3 types. I will be on just local channels with it.

You made a good choice by getting a samsung. We have had one for over 5 years now, and the picture is still excellent. Their service is great. A little over 3 years, we had trouble with the main control board. (Took it a while for the picture to come in) I called tech support, they came out and changed out the mother board in about ten minutes, free of charge, even though the warranty expired at 3 years. He said the company was doing this because they knew of the minor problem.

we bought a new 42 inch. Panasonic, very flat about 2 inches deep great picture qulity. What I like about the new stuff is the ease of connections and make sure it has a usb port. great for showing pictures, movies rtc. you download them from your computer.
Better still, get an apple tv. yeh, it is not a television set, it is a little box about 3x4x1, that streams your stuff from anywhere in your house wireless to your tv. music, movies, pictures etc. They are just over $100.00 and make your tv really something.

I'm a fan of plasma, only because I have one and I love it. LCD use to have major pixelization issues, but that has been mostly sorted out. It's still there , but barely ever noticable. You have to be caseful not to burn a plasma, but it takes some effort to burn a brand name screen, so non issue. At this point I would buy on price and brand. I wanted Panasonic, but didn't want to risk pixelizing, so I bought a plasma. Samsung, Sony, and Sharp are also good brands that offer LED/LCD. As another said, don't go too big if your only going to be watching local stuff with it. If your going to be watching DVD/Blu-Ray the majority of the time, the quality will be there, so bigger is okay.

My son is an Apple technician, and he stays informed about most of this stuff. He told me the other day that plasma is on its way out. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display, I don't understand how it works but it does. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, which is what all these flashlights have in them now. Son said the LED is the better type now. LEDs use less electricity. I know that some will disagree, but that is the way any conversation goes. Just passing on what I have been told.

We bought one through Amazon a few years ago and they sent someone to deliver and plug it in to be sure it worked and no shipping damage.

I think you'll find that all the retailers will only provide a 30 day in=store warranty. After that, you deal with the maker.

so, I just buy price and brand. selling dealer makes no difference to me.

I got my first one from Amazon.com. They shipped free and the fellows that delivered it took the old one out of the cabinet (very heavy) and put the new one in and plugged it in to verify it worked. They also cleaned up after themselves. Second one from Walmart.com also delivered free, but just to my door. They didn't set it up. First one was a Samsung LCD, second a Panasonic Plasma. Very satisfied with both.

Look at what you are mainly seeing in stores and the prices. Plasma and LCD are less expensive as led or 3d have become the norm. We have an LCD Samsung purchased before led was around but also a led Samsung that the picture is spectacular. I just hate paying for over 100 channels on satellite we don"t watch just to get what we do watch.

Most satellite broadcast is 720, over the air digital is 1080. Prefer the antenna over the sat but not going to replace the antenna amp until spring.

thanks for all the info.. i have learned a good bit from everyone on this go round..i will check back with walmart & sears today.. if they dont have one i want i will go online,, as some of you have said. have a good day

LED Tvs ARE LCD tvs. The difference in nomenclature is to differentiate between the backlight source. A LCD tv has a florescent bulb for the backlight, while and LED uses LED's for the backlight.

Yep! No doubt.. LED's are the Way to go... Should provide years of trouble free Service.See for Yourself, Go to Wmart. or other store, "Feel" of the screen... I can tell with My Eyes Closed, what type Screen it is Led or other...they are Muuuccch Cooler Operating. all the others feel like a Heater, Hope this is of help! Larry, KF4LKU

As in My earlier post, Lcd and Plasma are Liquid Based background Lit, As LED's are the very best Technology, as of this Time... such as Tail lites are mad of these days, AND supposedly NEEEver wear/Burn out, Its LED for Me! Larry

Did you try Walmart on-line? We bought a DVR that way, you can order and pick up at the store.

We bought an AOC 32" on-line from Amazon. At the time it was the best price and AOC has a good reputation for quality computer monitors. I understand they are a big deal in Europe, more than here. We have the same issue, 32" is about the biggest we can fit in a cabinet and momma says it has to be able to be hidden, so no giant screens in the living room. For the man-cave it would be OK (if I only had one).

thanks for the info we checked at walmart.. i think they have some pretty fair deals
