Lock for ball hitch on trailer

What is it you are trying to accomplish? If you want to secure it to you vehicle just use a good lock. To keep it from getting stolen when not in use just buy a ball and cut the bolt off and lock it in. If you are worried about bolt cutters you can get the locks with shoulders so they cant be cut. Master locks almost always win the lock durability contests. The coupler locks sold in stores are mostly junk and are easier to remove than a good Master lock.

If you want to get by cheap, put a spare ball in without a shank, and use a bicycle padlock through the release handle.

Lock as in what???? To stop a person form borrowing it with out permission or to lock it so it can not come free from your tow vehicle?? Hard to answer you with out you saying what you want to do

I use the Master lock for the ball and the ball release lever. I have run chains through holes in wheels and locked them so they can't be moved. If they want it bad enough its kind of hard to stop them.

if you want to get serious about keeping it in your possession... do this

How much security do you want to pay for, your standard ball coupler lock or master lock (standard type key) can be picked in under 30 seconds, easy.

assuming (unclear from your question) you want to prevent thieves from stealing it, take off the tires, store them in your garage or shed and block it up, along with a good lock. Especially good deterrent for dual axles (bumper pull). Anything much smaller risks being drug carried off, like your smaller 4x8s etc. Thugs rarely travel alone....
If you use yor trailer frequently, then this may not be the best way either although you may want to take one tire off each axle, leaving only oneon each side of trailer, front axle left tire, rear axle right tire. Might get noticed going down the road.
Cut-off switch for lights under trailer, various locks and chains as others mentioned.
Bottom line: If they want it bad, they will get it. Just document your possessions and insure them accordingly. At least you can recover your $ loss. For all headaches and agony with a theft use an aspirin.....
Hope this helps, Ralph in OK.
