I mentioned this to favorite daughter. She thinks there may be a site or two that you can type in a few bars of a tune using the computer keyboard to sound the tune out much like on a piano. Then play it and the site can ID the song or at least narrow it down to several that sound similar. I guess if you know who the artist is you can nail it real easy. Anyone heard of this type of site?

There is an app that does that called Shazam. You press the button and it listens to the song and tells you title, artist, album, lyrics, etc.

Thanks, what I'm talking about is that silly tune that you haven't heard in years, but just pops into you head on occasion. You know a few bars of it, but no idea when, where or how you heard it. It's usually triggered by an event or person you remember.

My father cannot carry a tune in a bucket. However, he used to try to sing a little snippet..."I didn't know the gun was loaded..."

I googled the line and found out that it was a tune from the Andrews Sisters from the 1940s. Who knew? I even found a site so that I could listen to the entire song. They sure sing alot better than my Dad.

The Andrews Sisters sang a lot better than most everybody.

Your post brought back a memory. Dad had several "snippets" that he would sing, from time to time, one of which was that one. Others were, "And the billers [billows] of black, greasy [glossy] hair, were those of my pretty quadroon." And "the yaller [yellow] rose of Texas, beat the gals from Tenn-e-seeeee."
