Thanks to all your (ToolTalk FORUM)help. We got FIL's Short cycling pump figured out. The local Well guy told us a precharged tank could NOT waterlog. Boy was he wrong-she was full to the gills even thou the pressure read correctly and water did not come out the stem. Maybe thats how he sells tanks. It may leak down slow again but we will be watching. A little bit of all your comments and a visit to a suggested site put it all together. Thanks again gang.
 
if there is water in the air space, it will not be long before the tank rusts thru & water sprays out all over the room, maybe for hours if you are gone. Trust me on this; I know from experience. The bladder contains water, NOT air. The air has no container except the metal shell of the tank. Once the bladder breaks, the water rusts thru the tank. Look for brown spots on the outside of the tank. These are tiny pinholes that have rusted thru but become clogged with rust or sediment. If you see the brown spots, it will soon blow.
 
I installed one of those bladder tanks in 1963 or 1964 in our home and my parents home. The old tanks kept getting water logged. It fixed the water logging problem. We sold our home in 1968. In 1981 my mother said her well water made them itchy. All the homes in that area had benzene in their well water. We went before the
town commission and told them of the water problem. In 1982 the town provided water and sewage. They removed that bladder tank that lasted 18 years. I don't think that tank ever was water logged or leaked. Hal
 
I learned something today! I always thought that the air was in the bladder. It makes sense though. Thanks.
