I have some wired vynal covered type romex 120 volt that enters the house. I would like to seal the hole with the spray foam in a can. Will the foam damage the wires?

Don't see why it would. Just don't store that stuff in something you can't throw away. Had some in a tool box on my service truck. Took me a weekend to clean up the mess.

There are many different types of foam on the market now. Check around to determine which type you should use for that application - don't just grab a can because it says spray foam on it.

I have used the stuff you get at Wal-Mart more then once around wiring and have never had any problems with it hurting any thing

If it is petroleum based it could damage the wires since NM cable is not resistant to oils. I don't know how long or how much damage it could couse, just repeating what the electrical inspector told me.

good post but a different question. can you spray the foam underwater, will it expand, will it set.
thanks

No it won't hurt the wires. If you look at the label it will tell you that. And watch what kind you get, there's high expansion, low expansion, fire block and several other types. Good Luck and wear gloves harder than heck to get off hands.

The expansion foam is a polyurethane which is fine to use on romex wire. The stuff would expand under water but I don't believe it would bond to anything.

Make sure you follow the precautions about it being flammable. A neighbor I know a few miles down the road burned down his house using the stuff close to a pilot light.
