push mower gear drive box There are two actual gears in this box. One is a worm gear and the other is a flat gear with cuts on an angle. Should these gears be replaced as a SET or just the one that looks worn? |

| The angled flat gear the teeth are just about worn off in the middle of the gear. |

| Are you replacing the gears because they look worn or are they broken? If they are only worn, grease the box and gears and put them back together. If broken then replace. Brian |

| Look here, it may be cheaper to just replace the gear box. |

| | I'll put it this way: If it was for a customer and I was going to warranty the repair, I'd replace both. If it was mine and I was willing to take a chance on it not being a very long lived repair, then I would replace just the worn out piece. Also: check your bearings. On some models its the bearings that allow the gears to get out of their proper mesh and then one wears out. |
