Sand blaster vac system

I ve been using my 5 gal. shop vac for removing the dust...I knew it s days were numbered well the vac died from too much dust intake. My question is what is the best and the most inexpensive system that I can get to do a good job for me? Thanks Bobby
 
Years ago 10-15? Shop vac made a extra filter for that purpose. Maybe? still available. Shop I work in now has a small squirrel cage fan ducted outdoors, seems to work OK.
 
S/C Bob, I wonder if a bag made for catching drywall dust could be the answere to the problem. I'm going to put one in my vac and vent my blast cabinet with it. Will post later with the results. Brian
 
I went through one shop vac and then bought a tall vac made for sand blasting cabinets. It, like the cabinet needed some modifications but has been serving me ok. Don't use it much anymore but did pretty steady while going through three tractors in a row. It came with a dinky little paper air filter over the motor and a large cloth bag in the bottom. I took an air filter element from a tractor and adapted that over the motor so I can run quite a while without cleaning the unit. Biggest problem is using too much air pressure and reusing the medium too long so it gets way too dusty. Should be vented outside also, but I know my neighbor would have the sheriff after me if I did that. Does now anyway.
 
dunno what your budget is, but i bought a blast cabinet from tp tools and it came with a dust collector. works real good. or....if you want budget, harbor freight has a dust collector vac for woodworking tools for a couple hundert. may be an option too.
 

I've been using a Craftsman shop vac on mine for quite a few years now with no problems. I think mine is the 30 gallon model though. Definitely not the 5 gallon model. Maybe that is the difference?
