Buffalo No18 drill press...550V

Just had a Buffalo No.18 drill press given to me, but it has a 550V 3 phase motor. Can this be rewired for 220V single phase? Or should I look for another motor. The 550V motor is 1/2hp, 204 frame, and 860rpm.

3 phase if just that and with out a convertor it can not be made to work on single phase.

Some paper mills used to be 550V for smaller motors, but I think it's quite rare now. You would probably be better off to find a 120V single phase motor.

You would have to replace the motor but it would be worth the cost.
I have an old Buffalo not sure what # but it is the big floor model.
Great machine never a problem in over 25 years of abuse.
Mine came with a 1/3 HP 1725 RPM motor, with the variable pulleys it has done everything I have asked of it.

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to look for a 220V single phase motor. THe only problem I see now is the motor on it is 860rpm, I will probably have to go with an 1140. Hopefully it will still be slow enough.
