Air compresson voltage choice.

I have Kobalt 6 HP air compressor that came with 110v cord and it works fine. The instruction book shows how to wire for a 220v.
I have both sources available at compressor. I am gettting conflicting information as to which voltage would be better/cheaper to operate.
Can someone advise me?

If it will run on 120 volts, it isn't a 6 hp air compressor. Unless you're running it on one leg of a 50 amp circuit.

That said, 240 is better. It won't necessarily be cheaper, but you'll get less voltage drop and that means better starting and cooler running.

220 is always better then 110. The motor will run cooler and use a tad bit less power and just plan is more efficient then 110 is.

If I had the choice between 120 or 240 (both readily available) NO WAY ID USE 120........ When we designed power distribution systems and motor control in our industrial facility we went with higher voltages anytime possible and of course, three phase if available

220 CAN be cheaper to run because it makes balancing your load easier. However, you still need to balance your load, which takes thought and time. Balancing you load can significantly reduce your demand charge, which we all know can drive you bill up.
