I have almost enough points on my Cabela's card to buy a new 1911. Trying to decide if I want a Remington, Ruger, or Springfield. Looking for any opinions I can get. I'm a fan of Ruger but I know a few people that have Springfields and like them. Don't know anyone that has a Remington. Thanks

I have a pair of Kimber Team USA match guns. Excellent but pricey.

I've had Colt Gold cups, and built a custom gun on a Para Ordinance GI 1911.

I've shot the 3 you've mentioned and like the Ruger SR1911 the best. My buddy just bought one and he/we ran about 500 rounds through it in an after noon of breaking it in. No failures of any kind. The sights where right on. I will end up with 1 or more of those to keep in strategic locations.

I have a Springfield MilSpec 1911A.

Don't have anything to compare it to, but I've never EVER had a malfunction. It will eat any kind of ammo I stuff into it without complaint.

My son 1LT in the army and has been to several shot shows with me has finally landed a Kimber Custom Tactical II. It"s his 1911 of choice. His wife bought it for him for Christmas. What a woman he found. And yes Pete they retail for $1200 but sure shoots nice.

Red Pete, We have 2 Springfield's, first one we bought was the longslide in a 45, right after, we bought another 5" 1911 Springfield Armory. Neither one is a disappointment, both shoot extremely well.We can put 8 in a target about the size of a tennis ball at 78 feet.My son carries his longslide for a ccw in a shoulder holster and in outside waist holster.Mine is getting a little heavy for CCW for me,but I can do it on good days. We tried to find a Ruger 1911,but they were about as plenty as hens teeth.looked for over 4 months and they had a waiting list on them over 1 yr.We just happened to come across the SA in a remote gun store. Laid the money down and bought the gun,not unhappy at all. Really like the lifetime warranty on SA. Tried a couple of Colts in the gun shop, just didn't fit right in our hand.
All other higher priced pistols felt like the SA's,but couldn't justify the higher price for bragging rights.Just keep looking, I'm sure you'll find the one that will suit you.Happy hunting, thats the most fun,get to handle alot of pistols without paying the price until you find one your happy with.As long as it suits your needs, thats all that matters.
Regards LOU

they are all pretty much the same. buy the one that fits in your hand best. you don't want to be fumbling with it if you need to use it in an emergency.

I have a matched pair of Colt .45 ACP 1911s that I carried through tout my military career after out of jump school. My Grand Dad and Dad bought them for me as a graduation gift.

I have a Ruger that is pretty good but it not in the same class as the Colts. I have heard Springfields are pretty good.

It kind of depends on what caliber you are looking at. In the 9 mm Guns than Ruger has a great one. The .45 ACP just is not as balanced as the Colts.

Several years ago I bought a .45 -- a Custom Classic Kimber --- NOT a custom gun = thats the model.

I love that gun -- shoots better than me-feels right. is by far the BEST gun I have!!!
I realize what I have had and what I have shot are NOT comparable. But I like the Kimber!!!!

I'm also in the market and have been eyeing the R1 pretty hard. I really can't find a negative review on it. Can't find one to shoot either. None of the gun ranges have one to rent. I have shot the Springfield MI. Really liked it. Just don't know what to do 8/

I had a Springfield one time and it needed adjustable sights. The gun shot way too high. Other than that it was fine.

Colt is makint their Super .38 again. In both the 5 inch and 4 inch models. Here's my 5 inch, new pricing and not much more than the springfield.

I have a Colt and quite satisfied. It was my TO weapon for most of my military career. Slide and barrels are stout and parts can be found easily. If you decide to buy new I would highly recommend a parkerized finish.

The Kimbers seem to be in a class by themselves. Would probably need another $600 to buy one.

I hear a lot of good things about the Springfield. Have not heard good or bad on the others. I have a Kimber and love it.Once I got a 1911 I dont shoot my other pistols much and when I do I wish I was shooting my 1911. Dont think you can go wrong with any of them.
