birds always predict the weather

Haven't had the chance to see that much this yearfor the dry, but I noticed the birds gorging at the feeders yesterday more than usual and this morning feeding in the rain. If the rain is only a passing shower, you won't see one around, but if it's an all day event, they have to eat.

Rats....I musta made a right when I shoulda gone left! Thought I was on TT upstairs!

you reach a point in life when its hard to keep your mind clear and your mouth closed and i'm there. as for the birds, years past we have had large numbers and variety at the feeder; however, this year we do not have any. its a new feeder (2) in a new location and has been for 2 months, still no birds. one at the edge of the woods and another one about 30 feet from them. 1 addition to family is a outside cat, perhaps that is the problem. we do have wood peckers coming to the suet feeder though.

This came at me this morning and I think it has been around, but it got me to grinnin' anyway. It has "relevance". Here's how it goes:
It's late fall and the Indians on a remote reservation in North Dakota asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild.

Since he was a chief in a modern society, he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky, he couldn't tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared.

But, being a practical leader, after several days, he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, 'Is the coming winter going to be cold?'

'It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,' the meteorologist at the weather service responded.

So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared.

A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. 'Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?'

'Yes,' the man at National Weather Service again replied, 'it's going to be a very cold winter.'

The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find.

Two weeks later, the chief called the National Weather Service again. 'Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?'

'Absolutely,' the man replied. 'It's looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters we've ever seen.'

'How can you be so sure?' the chief asked.

The weatherman replied, 'The Indians are collecting a sh-tload of firewood'

We had a Robin looking for something to eat 2 weeks ago here in SE SD. Usually don't see any till March but this one might have got lost or missed the last call.

When the birds are feeding hard its gonna storm. Blackbirds were flocking late it seemed, but at least they were doing it to get winter here. Don't remember seeing that last year.

Much like the birds , chickens will run back to the hen house in a passing shower but will stay out and feed if it is going to rain all day .
