Something i found 16 years ago..pic..

While i was shuffling through my grandpas old workshop. Any idea who made this ? Under the rust there is the word BOSS stamped in . How did someone shuck with one of these? Do you start at the top of the ear and rip down ?

We had a simpler device, a small metal spear shaped device with finger loops on the back. Held in the palm of the hand, opposing the thumb. Metal piece was used to open the ear at the top, then the thumb was placed on the shuck and it was pulled downward to the base. A couple or three passes, and you had it pretty well shucked.
 
I too spent many hours in our cornfield with the simpler one you just described. Three pulls and the ear of corn was shucked. Snap the ear off and toss it on the corn wagon. In front of the tractor would pile them up. Pull the tractor forward 60 feet - and start over.

6 rows a day, the field seemed to go on forever.
 
You"re right about that. Gets old real fast! Especially in the cold. I only got the privilege when we opened up a field for the picker, but can remember my dad shucking corn in the barn all winter... When they still cut and bound corn into shocks, and hauled them in on a haywagon.
 
Enjoyed the comments below. I helped with that too. In those days, among the rights afforded to people was the right to starve if you could work and did not.
All your efforts produced just enough to get by.
