does anyone have a pattern for an adapter to put a 3406 cat engine on an engine stand? The local diesel guy has a stand but no adapter for the cat. Thanks for your help.

All engines are standardized through SAE for their flywheel housing design...here is a link to the different specs on them. You should be able to measure it up and see which one it is and then the drawings will help.

Ya don't mount a Diesel engine on a stand by the flywheel housing they mount from the side of the block. They are not a car or pick up engine and were not talking noting mre then a big block here , we are talking and engine that weights in excess of 2500 lbs and up . And each engine MFG. has a mounting plate for that engine and where it mounts on the side of the block then adapts to the stand .

Yup thats right, we made our adapter after pricing one at OTC, whoa! As I remember the 3406 mounts on what OTC calls the universal plate? Of course the plate only works on an OTC stand.

yea its a beast! Just got the block in and going to rebuild it for my automotive class. Local diesel mech has a stand but no mounting plate so going to need to make one out of 1/2 plate. Just looking for a bolt pattern so I dont get the holes off since its not a flat sided block. any other pointers on building this engine is always appreciated! Only worked on a few diesel tractor engines before and nothing this large! Thanks

3406 adapter plate is square and mounts to 4, 3/4 inch fine thread holes in pump side of block. Pattern is large and spacers need to be btween plate and block.
