Propane tanks valve question.

Where I live for some reason they don't won't to sell propane tanks with liquid withdraw valves. Talking to them is like a cat and mouse game.

I talked to the dealer he asked if a corn dryer valve is what I need (he didn’t know what a check-lok fitting is)? I said yes, will that have the right valve for filling a LP tractor?

Then he asked if I need a high and low regulator. I do for the vapour side but we never mentioned the vapour side. Is that probable what he is talking about? Do they make high and low regs for liquid?

I have no regulator on my liquid valve, it is tank pressure to push the liquid to the tractor or truck. I just vent the vapor from the tank I am filling to the atmosphere.

Where do you live? Any tank less than 50 years old should have a liquid valve. You would need an adapter, angle valve, liquid hose, fill adapter and a few other parts. I will try the get some part numbers.

The high pressure regulator is typically at the tank and a low pressure regulator is at the house. The two regulators are used to control the pressure to a furnace etc. They operate on vapor not liquid and are not used for filling tractors.

A liquid draw off pulls liquid from the bottom of the tank and does not use a regulator. My tank has an extra fitting on the top of the tank - but not under the dome with the level gage and fill valve. The liquid draw off is installed in this fitting and consists of a valve and hose. You will need the correct adaptors on the hose to mate with your tractor.

You will probably need to shop around to find a dealer willing to do this type of service. When I had mine installed I found they were pretty cautious. I think it helps if one appears knowledgeable on just what is needed and how they will use it. Don't take the last sentence the wrong way - it is not intented as an insult. But rather place yourself in the propane dealers shoes - they don't want to be the dealer that sells something to a person who makes the news the next day.

A high pressure regulator is used at the tank when the
burner(s) are large and far away from the tank.. In order to
avoid using very large dia pipe.
11 or so inches water colum of pressure isn"t a lot of push.

The last one I did had a plug on the far end of the tank that was the liquid draw(dip tube) or just pull from the bottom of the tank. Lp is as safe as gas, just remember they both will bite you quick.

I trust you did take the story about skydiving and colman lanterns under consideration.
