I'm replacing my serpentine belt and tensioner today. The bolt on the tensioner stripped out a few years ago and I replaced it with a grade 8 bolt ond nut. The question is, should the tensioner be snugged up to the casting or should it float a little bit? I don't know if the original bolt went to a point and bottomed out to let it turn to tension the belt or not. Thanks for the help. |

| Thanks guys. I wasn't sure if the bushing in the tensioner was long enough to give it play if I snugged the bolt up. Turns out it was and I've got plenty on tension on the new belt. No belt squeal when I turn the lights on. Alternator used to load the belt down. Thanks again for the replies Charlie |

| My thoughts: the tensioner should be mounted to ensure the roller rotates on its bearing and not on the bolt. |

| Just make sure tensioner moves when you are done |
