Chicken crate glue up...

Making an old fashioned wooden chicken crate, out of some scrap cherry, and I have the top, with the door, all glued up, and am ready to proceed, gluing the sides dowels to the top, and bottom rails. That's 58 dowels, and a saddle joint, at each corner of the lower rail. Anybody ever try this kind of a goat roping? I am gonna need to keep everything square, in 2 dimensions, so I am assuming I can wire it square, till the glue dries, but this looks like a job for slow drying glue!
 
Why glue? They put them together with nails for a good reason.
I would pre drill the rails and use small finish nails.
 
I think they used heavy wire or light rods from top to bottom to hold them together.

It's been about 65 years since I used one.

The one I was using for a pattern, had no nails in the spokes, and it was a professional made model. I think I will just take my time, and slow glue, while clamping a square to it, here and there.
 
Don't think there is any glue in what I have. Not going up in the falling down building to look.
 
If you fasten the wire on in the right place can't you just leave the twisted wire there like on the fence corner post. If done both directions it should stay square till the glue dries.
