Hi Al! I aways like Hobart's Fabshield 21-B. It will run beautifully in all positions. Next would be Lincoln's NR-212. Both are child's play to run.

Would you use NR-212 on code work structural?
I use NR-232 for out of position .lots of slag to get out of the way, looks like gas shielded flux cor low spatter.

NS-3m 5/64 to.120 for flat work awesome lbs per hr.

I ran some 3/32" NS3M. If you really turn it up you can burn a big spool in about 2 hours. Welds are super smooth unless you get arc blow. Then it's ugly.

Al here on the west coast the structural welding world got turned on it's ear after the Northridge earthquake in California. Soon after about all you seen specified was NR-232, or Coreshield 8. Latter Lincoln came out with NR-233 which is a little more user friendly. All this happened after I was in management, all I was doing at the time was supervising welding crews, not welding myself.
I have been on jobs welding pre-cast concrete panels to steel beams where we used NS-3M. Back in the 80s I worked on several Navy projects where they would only accept NR-203.

So when I suggested 21-B, and NR-212 I thought you wanted a good general fab wire, not looking for a wire for code work.

That's ok,some stuff get's lost in my typing.
I help out at a quarry operation when I am laid off and they use alot of Inner. Their family graduated to this after having a welding shop that did alot of equip repair, track shop etc..They used the big NS 3M on d-8 and 9 track grousers. I got them using 232-233 cause 203m1% wasn't very good to work with.
They bought new surplus bulk and it was around for years.

Yes the slag looks like sub arc. We have 5/64,3/32 that we use most. and .120 when we have something that will take the heat.

I did 4 35 ton haul truck floors and side this summer with 3/32 NS3m and the verts with 1/16 233
