Lincoln 300/300 tig welder

I have a Lincoln 300 tig welder,when III switched it back to tig setting the remote goes full amps when you hit the foot pedal,no low to high amp control.I have an extra foot pedal and it does the same.Not 100 per cent sure the second one is any better.
Any ideas?

Algar, I've had that happen to me with the Miller TIG welder. I would tap the foot pedal and unless I went all the way and back up to where I wanted it wouldn't start. This was when I was first learning how to TIG in the Coast Guard. The DC2 that was teaching me claimed it was an illusion, and I was developing a bad habit. We had a different miller with different gas for stainless, and I never had the problem with that one, and when I used the thumb control, I never had that problem, either. I always suspect that it was the pedal. Over time I noticed it not happening, but I also noticed that there was a new pedal. The DC2 swares I just became more proficient while using the thumb control, but to this day, I think the pedal was bad, and I am pretty sure he knew it.

Did you have the local/remote amperage switch set for remote? That could cause what you describe because you don't have to use a foot pedal. Usually the current will only go up to what is pre-set as the maximum amps.

Yes the remote switch is on.Tig torch is dead until you step on pedal.You hear the solenoid "clunk"high frequ comes on welder goes to full amps on that range.

Could be a bad foot pedal or possibly an internal wiring problem. I'd see if a welder repair shop could check the foot pedal. Before doing that, you should send an e-mail to Kaye at Bill's welder repair. If anyone would have an idea what's wrong, she would. Just google their website.

My Idealarc 300 TIG sounds like it is similar to your machine. From your description the remote foot switch is operating correctly as far as tripping the contactor and starting the high frequency. It just is not regulating the current. I would look at the switch to see if mechanically something has happened or if a wire has broken somewhere. It may be a bad control board for the remote operation in the machine itself. You can get an operator's manual at the Lincoln website if you have none. It will have the complete wiring diagram in it to help diagnose the problem.
