With winter coming, and thinking of plowing snow, am wondering if anyone uses skids of somekind on their backblades, I'm sick of scraping the coating off my blacktop.
 
Ask this on the N board.
I have seen numerous threads there where guys have taken 1 1/2" PVC pipe, cut a slot in it lengthwise and slipped it over the cutting edge of the back blade. Supposedly it does a pretty good job and doesn't harm the blacktop.
 
If you can find some thick rubber belting or mats and cut a piece so that it will stick down below your cutting edge a couple inches and bolt it on with 4 bolts that are already holding your blade on. It should last a long time and not abuse your blacktop driveway.

I haven't tried it yet but I am thinking of using the guage wheel on the back of my back blade to set the depth. I hate scraping all the crushed rock off the driveway and on to the lawn and into the ditches.
 
Set your top link short so it don't dig into the driveway and turn the blade around, using the convex side vs. the concave side. Some silicon spray on the blade helps to keep the snow from sticking.

Another thing I do is leave about 1" of snow on the drive.

I made and installed a set of shoes similar to factory ones, round dish shaped shoe with washers for adjustment. They work well, have to adjust them for winter soon!
 
A board bolted or lag screwed behind and extending just below the edge should protect the drive. If it a bit longer, you could also bolt another board to the top edge then screw some sheet metal between, making the plow wider.
 
I have really tough black plastic tubing that I'm going to try that with. I heard they use bungee cords to prevent slipping, but I thought I would cut the pipe long and use a bolt and a nut through both ends to prevent slippage.
 
I use a piece of angle bolted to the blade backwards sow the edge drags. It leaves probable an inch or two of of snow on driveway.

Someone here suggested it and I'm happy with this setup.
