The Hobart School is NOT the place to be taking an old busted vise to. I don't think Lanse is looking for a career in fixing busted vises. The Hobart school is for people that want to pursue a welding career, not work on their own projects. Lanse needs to focus and pay attention to everything they teach him. Fixing a broken vise should be the lowest thing on the priority list. You need to learn welding before you start specializing in cast iron repair. Blueprint reading is very important for fabricating welded structures and takes on a whole new meaning when you add in welding symbols. You apply for job in a fab shop and there's 6 others applying but you're the only one who can make sense of a blueprint. Who do think would get hired? Just remember that the arrow side is the bottom side no matter how the arrow bends. I think Lanse will really enjoy the Hobart school because, like I told him and he also confirmed, the students want to be there. |

| The first time I went to welding school was my Jr. & Sr. year in high school for 4-hours a day. This was a regional trade center about 20-miles from my high school. The very first day the teacher was explaining to us what a privilege it was for us to be there. Three guys right up front still hadn't settled down from coming inside. Not one word of warning, the teacher pitched them out of the class right then, and they never returned! |
