Might give the Machinists a chuckle (pics)

Hey everybody.

I set up a pump to fuel some small heaters and due to poor planning on my part the nozzle didn't fit the hole in the tanks!

It was the holiday weekend and I didn't have any luck finding an adapter to do the job.

Finally I got disgusted and pulled out some 35mm hex aluminum bar that I had and went to work.

A carbide blade on the table saw sliced off a 1 1/4" section and I set up the drill press with a 13/16" hole saw.

I removed the 'plug' and drilled and filed 'till I had the hole to 7/16".

I welded the plug into the end of the nozzle and after some filing and shaping it actually works!

I will never be mistaken for a real machinist I fear.

he just wanted to play with his toys

ya did good!

oh the saw thing we used to turn saw blade around and cut alum. siding in the younger days.

(quoted from post at 01:37:26 11/27/12) that's to simple.
ad part is that back when unleaded gas first came around, all the auto supply stores sold a stepped plastic sleeve that slipped over a big leaded nozzle so that it would fit into the small filler hole on unleaded-only cars. Probably costs less than 50 cents. Can't find my old one & never see them in stores anymore. Probably against some law now.

You know, there IS a much easier way.

You could have used a chain saw to cut off a spare chunk of steel from your wife's car, melted it down and just cast that little sleeve.

I remember a joke about the US making the worlds smallest drill bit. sent it to the russians, they drilled a hole in it and sent it back!
