Welding torch leaky valves

I have two welding=cutting torch sets , one was my grandfathers. but both have oxygen valves on the cutting end that won,t cut off completely. Have taken both valve stems apart and can,t see why the seats don,t seal.
Question: How do I get them to seat?
I took one of them several years ago to the welding store and they sent them to be refurbished but I think all they did was shine the brass because it still leaked.
I know it would probably be cheaper to just buy a new set but I would like to continue using my grandfathers 70 year old Linde torch set.

Not all repair shops are equal. I would check with a few welding supplies to see who is the best repair shop in your area and go to them directly. It's possible the shop didn't have the right tool to resurface the sealing face. Just like a valve job on an engine, you have to get it just right with the right angle.
 
The first thing to do is take the valve out and polish it with steel wool, I like oooo. It will remove any dirt without hurting the stem or seat. Push some in the seat and work it too. If that does t work then send them in to be rebuilt.
